Some apps you rely on at home work differently in Korea. Install these before you go.

- PapagoTranslationNAVER's translator. Point the camera at menus and signs for instant translation; conversation mode is handy too.
- k.rideTaxiKakao Mobility's ride-hailing app for visitors. English and Japanese interface, and overseas cards for automatic payment.
- Transit card (T-money etc.)TransitEssential for subways and buses. Buy and top up at convenience stores or stations; cheaper than single tickets and gets transfer discounts.
- CATCH TABLE GLOBALRestaurant bookingThe visitor version of Korea's restaurant reservation and waitlist app — useful for popular spots.
- 1330 Korea Travel HotlineHelpKorea Tourism Organization's travel helpline with interpretation support, including English and Japanese (dial 1330 in Korea).
Does Google Maps work?
Because of Korea's map-data export rules, Google Maps' walking and driving navigation is limited. Use Google Maps for discovery and NAVER Map for getting around.
Transit card tips
The base subway fare is ₩1,550 with a transit card, or ₩1,650 for a single ticket. Cards also give subway–bus transfer discounts, so buy one at a convenience store or station on arrival.
